SOUTH BEND - Eugene A. Zakrzewski, 91, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015, in his home surrounded by his family. Eugene was born August 6, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Stanley and Anelia (Oleksy) Zakrzewski. On November 9, 1946, in South Bend, Eugene married the late Helen (Trzop) Zakr-zewski. Eugene was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward, Ted, William, Clarence and Walter. Eugene is survived by his brother, Stanley Zakrzewski of New Carlisle, and many nieces and nephews, as well as many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a very dear close friend, Theresa Wozniak. In 1944 Eugene attended a pilot class and honorably served his country as a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps. He retired in 1988 from WNDU after 30 years as a technician. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post #357 and the Broadcast Pioneers. Gene enjoyed gardening, golfing, and was a big Notre Dame fan. He raised and provided for many nieces and nephews and always wanted to be with family and attend family reunions. Visitation will be 2 to 8 pm on Monday, July 13, 2014, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, July 14, 2014, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or St. Vincent De Paul, 520 Crescent Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617.
