MISHAWAKA - Clarence R. "Jay" Fye, 91, of Mishawaka, died Thursday, October 9, 2014, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He was born April 28, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Clarence E. and Sophie (Wytrolic) Fye. On May 8, 1948, in El Paso, Texas, he married the former Kathryn Rose Wilhelm, who preceded him in death in 2006. Jay was also preceded in death by his siblings, Phyllis Freese and Roland Fye. He is survived by three sons, Michael and Judy Fye, Gregory and Lynette Fye, and David Fye, all of South Bend. Jay has 10 grandchildren: Eric, Matt, Lauri, Shelly, Eric, Jamie, Missy, Tray, Shane and Christina; and 3 great- grandchildren. Jay retired from Tucker Freight Line and Clemens Freight in South Bend. Jay served in the United States Army in the Philippines and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served as an usher for many years. Jay was very active in the Jamestown Co-op where he lived. During his children's earlier years he was a Boy Scout Leader with Troop 374 and was their Scoutmaster. He enjoyed being with his children in their sporting activities and was an avid White Sox and Notre Dame fan. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2014, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1501 W. Cleveland Rd., where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service.
