SOUTH BEND - Robert Eugene Nemeth, 86, residing in South Bend, passed away at 4:20 am Thursday, March 3, 2016, in Wellbrooke of South Bend. He was born July 23, 1929, in South Bend, to the late Geza and Olga Nemeth, and remained a lifelong area resident. On November 23, 1957, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, Robert married the former Margaret Jeanne “Tootie” Curran, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, he is survived by one daughter, Paula (Steve) Pletcher of Indianapolis, IN; four sons, Marc (Mary) Nemeth of North Carolina, Jeff (Fran) Nemeth of Greensboro, NC, Chris Nemeth of Atlanta, GA, and Brian (Jackie) Nemeth of South Bend; thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald (Sandy) Nemeth of Three Rivers, MI. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Majewski; and a brother, Richard Nemeth. Robert served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked in banking and was vice president at the time of his retirement. Robert was a member of the Niles Noon Optimist Club, and enjoyed spending time with his family as well as traveling. Memorial services for Robert will be held at 7:00 pm Saturday, March 5, 2016, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Rev. Kenneth Grabner will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 - 7:00 pm Saturday in the funeral home prior to services. Memorial contributions may be donated to the University of Notre Dame Band, c/o Notre Dame Bands, PO Box 123, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
