MISHAWAKA - Verlin R. Hedman, 78, of West Catalpa Drive, Mishawaka, passed away at 4:22 pm on Friday, October 19th, 2012, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, following a sudden illness. He was born in Mishawaka on July 6th, 1934, to Isadore and Lena (Knoblock) Hedman, who preceded him in death. On May 25th, 1980, he married the former Nancy Ballard in South Bend. She preceded him in death on October 15th, 2006. Mr. Hedman was a production worker for Uniroyal until his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the early stages of the Vietnam War. He is also a graduate of Mishawaka High School. He is survived by his children, Londa (Mark) Miltenberger and Roy (Mary Jan) Hedman, both of Niles, Michigan. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Alan Miltenberger, Kelsey Miltenberger, Nicole Hedman and Brittany Hedman. One great-grandchild, Zoey, also survives. One stepson, Ted Ballard of Adrian, Michigan, survives with his two children and four grandchildren. Verlin is survived by his sisters, Verleen Obren and Mary Forst, and his former wife, Norma Hedman of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by his brother, Garlin Hedman. Funeral services for Mr. Hedman will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main St., Mishawaka. Friends will be received from 4 until 7:00 pm on Monday, and also two hours prior to the services on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
