ELKHART - Susan Marie Sailor, 91, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016, at her residence. She was born August 15, 1924, in Elkhart, to Leonard and Gelsomina (Iarrapino) Minichillo. On Oct. 18, 1947, she married the late George J. Sailor. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1985. Survivors include 4 daughters, Maria (Ronald) Walter, Therese (Kevin O'Neill) Sailor, Cathy Sailor, all of Elkhart, and Lisa of Logansport; 6 sons, Leonard (Pam) Sailor of Mishawaka, Paul Sailor, Michael Sailor, Joseph Sailor, Stephen (Glenda) Sailor and Louis (Ricklyn) Sailor, all of Elkhart; 1 sister, Toni Minichillo of Elkhart; 25 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Anna Craigo; 1 sister, Marie Corpe; 2 brothers, Pat Minichillo and Louis Minichillo; and 2 grandsons, John Craigo and Scott Sailor. Susan was a loving homemaker and wife for more than 38 years. Sue led her 91 years of life with strength, love, and devotion, with her faith and family being the most important things to her. Having a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother, she found great joy in her own motherhood. As a loving wife and mother of 10 children, her work ethic was strong throughout all her years. She thrived on working with her hands, baking bread and preparing food for family and friends. It was a comfort for her and she felt it was always a way to bring people together. She was a true inspiration to so many, a timeless and giving woman who, when you met her, she just brought a smile to your face. For those of us lucky enough to have known her, we feel beyond blessed for the years and love she shared with us. We also are able to find comfort that she finally will be reunited with her beloved George. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and the Rosary Society. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday, May 31st, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin Street, Elkhart. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1st, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1405 N. Main Street, Elkhart. Reverend Jason Freiburger will officiate. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior. Interment will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery.
