Alice H. Dygulski
Oct. 8, 1918 - Sept. 15, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Alice (Kazmierczak) Dygulski, 93, passed away peacefully in the company of her children at 2:45 pm Saturday, September 15, 2012, in the Hospice House of South Bend. Alice was born October 8, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Adalbert (George) and Frances (Jankowiak) Kazmierczak. She was the eighth of nine children. All of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. On June 14, 1942, Alice married Henry Dygulski, who passed away on July 9, 1989. Alice and Henry were apart when Henry fought in World War II, but began their family shortly after his return. Alice is also survived by her children, Sharon (Fred) Kruger of Germantown, WI, Marlene (Tom) Quigley of Fishers, IN, Leonard (Renita) Dygulski and Elaine (Edward) Sera of South Bend; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Alice's father was a driving force behind the construction of St. Adalbert Roman Catholic Church, which was named for his patron saint, and Alice was a member of that parish her entire life. For many years she was very active in the St. Adalbert Harvest House and Rosary Society, the American Legion Post 357 Auxiliary, St. Hedwig Grandmothers Club, St. Stanislaus Kostka over 50 Club, and the West Side Democratic Club. Alice was also recognized by the March of Dimes for her Outstanding Volunteer Service. Alice loved cooking and baking, especially polish favorites. She and Henry would often be found dancing the night away to their favorite polka bands. Fishing held a special place in her life and she cherished the quiet times spent fishing with her beloved husband. As time passed, perhaps her greatest joy came from time shared with her friends and family. Visitation for Alice will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm today, September 18, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 19, 2012, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Resurrection Gardens. Alice's family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Center of Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the March of Dimes , 209 N. Main St., Suite 300, South Bend, IN 46601. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
