SOUTH BEND - Richard F. "Dick" Urbanski, 71, of South Bend, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at his residence. Dick was born October 21, 1943, in South Bend, to the late Frank G. and Sophie T. (Bogacki) Urbanski. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Loretta Nate; in-laws, Matt H. and Gertrude T. Harlozinski; sister-in-law, Georgiane Wojtowicz; nephew, Patrick Nate; and great-niece, Katelyn Tinsley. Dick was a graduate of St. Stanislaus Catholic Grade School, a 1961 graduate of St. Joseph High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University South Bend in 1968. On January 28, 1967, in South Bend, Dick married Christine M. Harlozinski, who survives, along with three daughters, Kelly (Jeff) Molnar of South Bend, Holly (Matt) Szymczak of South Bend and Heather (Carl Krause) Urbanski of Byron, Minnesota; son, Sean (Michelle) Urbanski of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Amber (Luis) Zaldivar, Meghan Urbanski, Colby, Carter, and Caila Szymczak, Ozzy and Max Krause; three great-grandchildren, Kordel Carnegie, Natalia and Jose Zalvidar; two sisters-in-law, Julie (Harry) Jozwiak and Maureen Harlozinski, both of South Bend; two brothers-in-law, Jim Nate of Mishawaka and John Wojtowicz of South Bend; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was the president of Surplus Insurance Brokers Agency Inc. for thirty-two years, retiring in 2008. He attained the designation of C.P.C.U. (Charter, Property, Casualty, Underwriters), a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, was past president of North Central Indiana Agents Association, and life member of the Loyal Order of Blue Goose; he also worked at Emmco Insurance Company, and St. Joseph Public Library, (Main Branch) in South Bend. Dick loved his occupation over the many years and enjoyed meeting and helping people. Even after retirement, his passion and interest for the business continued. Dick "Bomp" was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to the holiday celebrations with them. He enjoyed his afternoon naps with his loving dog, "Pierre." His hobbies included collecting rare coins and gardening. He always cherished beautiful music. He was a loyal Notre Dame fan. His love for God and his strong faith was always present in his life and he always displayed this devotion to his family, friends, and acquaintances. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 14th, at Sacred Heart Basilica of Notre Dame. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, (Western Avenue), South Bend.
