SOUTH BEND - Mary Ellen (Larkin) Kubiak, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away on June 28 after a brief illness in Hospice House of South Bend. She was the daughter of John and Florence Larkin Sr. of South Bend. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School in South Bend, and Central High School where she met her husband, Louis A. Kubiak, who preceded her in death in 1996. They had been married for nearly 60 years. She is survived by her four children, James Louis (Jody) of Minneapolis, MN, Sharon E. Nyberg (David) of South Bend, Mary Jo Kubiak of South Bend and Carl (Teena) of South Bend. Mary Ellen was known as "Gramma" to each of her 10 grandchildren, Alana (Jim) of Minneapolis, David Kubiak of Minneapolis, Cathy Johnson (Paul) of Hudson, WI, Sara Blanch (Jeff) of Minneapolis, Ayn Elise Cerpes and Chelley Chamberlin, both of South Bend, Christopher (Tamera) Kubiak of Granger, Jenn (James) Currey of Crown Point and Shawntell (Dan) Bright of Muncie, IN. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Noelani Blanch, Kyle and Amanda Kubiak, all of Minneapolis, Callan and Nathan Kubiak of Granger, Olivia and Layla Currey of Crown Point, Ryan and Alyssa Johnson of Hudson, WI, and Emma and Parker Bright of Muncie, IN. Also surviving is her brother, Jack Larkin (Patricia) of South Bend. During her life she had been an avid tennis player. Along with her husband she had been partner and part owner of the McClave Printing Company in South Bend. She was an avid reader and proficient in many types of needlework. A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2007, in the McGann Hay University Chapel, Edison Road, with visitation one hour before service. The family wishes to thank the staff at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center on 4 North, 5 West and 5 North for their kindness and great care given during her hospital stay.
