Casimer Stepanek
Casimer M. Stepanek, 85, Michigan City, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday (March 12,
2002) at Life Care Center of Michigan City. The funeral is at noon Friday at
St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Burial is in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, with American Legion Skwiat Post 451 providing full military services. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., followed by a memorial service by Skwiat Post 451 at 7:30 p.m., both today in the funeral chapel. He was born Jan. 21, 1917, in LaPorte to Stanley Sr. and Mary (Garboski) Stepanek. On Aug. 5, 1938, in Michigan City, he married Josephine Markowski, who survives. Survivors also include two sons, Gregory Stepanek, Western Springs, Ill., and Jeffery Stepanek, Michigan City; two brothers, Stanley Stepanek Jr. and Ted Stepanek, both of LaPorte; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sister Mary Stepanek; and five brothers, Mike, Walter, Fetz, Julius and Steve Stepanek. Mr. Stepanek retired after 50 years as owner of Stepanek's Barber Shop, Michigan City. He was a member of Stanislaus Catholic Church. In the U.S. Air Force, he served as a pilot/radio operator on a B-17 Fighting Fortress during World War II. He was a founding member and past commander of American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and was a past president of the local barber's union. He also was a state high school wrestling champion.
