Mishawaka-Irene F. Mestach, 88, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. Irene was born on April 10, 1927 to Gentiel and Margaret (DeSmet) Meersman. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Larry, Albert and Charles Meersman and a sister, Rosemary Lang. On June 8, 1946 in Mishawaka she married Robert Mestach. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2001. Surviving are two daughters, Kathy (Barry) Slott of South Bend and her children, Brad (Amie) Slott of Peoria, IL, their children Claire and William Slott, Marty (Blair) Slott of Eagle Vail, CO and their child, Swazy Slott, and Diane (Dale) Hemphill of Mishawaka and step grandchildren, Julie Hemphill of MI and Tim Hemphill of South Bend; and a brother, Jim Meersman of South Bend. Irene worked for Michiana Wholesale for 24 years, retiring in 1990. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 23 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Chaplain Donny Johnson officiating.
