MISHAWAKA - Frederick C. Gygi, 87, and his wife, Barbara Ann Calijure-Gygi, 80, of Elder Road, Mishawaka, passed away at their home, Frederick on February 28th, and Barbara on March 1st. Frederick was born June 6th, 1929, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Floyd and Marian (Sweitzer) Gygi, and Barbara was born on March 15, 1936, to Joseph and Helen (Rospopo) Calijure. Both of Frederick's and Barbara's parents preceded them in death. They were married in Mishawaka on April 23, 1955. They are survived by their children: Frederick T. Gygi of Mishawaka, Beth A.R. Schmeltz of Arizona, Christopher Joseph Gygi of South Bend and Matthew T. Gygi of Lowell, Indiana. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, along with Frederick's brothers, Franklin James Gygi of Florida, Francis Richard Gygi of Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Forrest Michael Gygi of Osceola, Indiana. Frederick was Maintenance Technician for Dodge Corporation in Mishawaka until his retirement and Barbara was a Master Florist. Frederick was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He also was a member of the United Steel Workers Union, Local # 1191, Mishawaka. Frederick was a Charter Member of Penn North Fire Dept. and both he and Barbara were members of Willow Creek United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017, at Willow Creek United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, at 1:00 pm. Friends will be received from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 5th, at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, and also one hour prior to the funeral services at the church on Monday. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gygi family in care of Antonia Peterson, 30958 Oak Drive, Osceola, Indiana 46561, to assist with funeral expenses.
