SOUTH BEND - Richard E. Tepe, 87, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Kindred Hospital, Mishawaka. He was born on November 19, 1929 in Mishawaka, to the late Edwin F. and Mary (Sofka) Tepe. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1947 and received a BA in business from the University of Notre Dame in 1951. On September 26, 1953, in Chicago, IL, he married Mary Ann Kalal, who survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Christine Switalski and Jackie (Doug) Kronewitter, both of Mishawaka; five sons, Steven (Debra) and William (Doris), both of South Bend, Paul (Theresa) of Granger, Joseph (Norbert Shimkus) of Michiana Shores, IN and Larry of Mishawaka; ten grandchildren, Pam LaCluyse, Cathy McCann, Tracy VanSchoick, Heather Sobieralski and Eric Tepe, Hanah Tepe, Monica and Nicholas Tepe and Nathan and Jessica Kronewitter; and by nine great-grandchildren, Kyle LaCluyse, Gavin and Bryson VanSchoick, Gabby and Leksi Sobieralski, Carmyn and Ethan Tepe, Norah and Dylan Tepe and one great-granddaughter on the way. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Sadie McCann and three brothers, Robert, Donald and Kenneth Tepe. He was a very well known and respected businessman in the area, as the President and Owner of Tepe Furniture. Richard was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a parishioner and usher of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and an avid Notre Dame fan. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday January 27, 2017 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3526 St. John's Way, South Bend.
