SOUTH BEND - Alice M. Tomczak, 87, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at 1:30 am on Friday, May 6, 2016, in Hospice House. Alice was born on July 16, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Casimer and Adeline Nowicki. On July 3, 1948, in South Bend, Alice married her loving husband, Edward, who passed away on May 23, 2000, after 52 wonderful years of marriage. Alice is survived by her son, Thomas (Janet) of South Bend, and her daughter, Susan (Todd) Fisher, also of South Bend; grandchildren include Troy (Melissa) Tomczak of Huntley, IL, Todd (Meghan) Tomczak of South Bend, Danielle (Azzedine) Benchaar of South Bend, and Kimberly Fisher of Warrenville, IL. Alice was also a great-grandmother to Reese and Tyler Tomczak of Huntley, IL, Lanie and Tanner Tomczak of South Bend, and to her newest great-granddaughter, Aubrey Benchaar of South Bend. Alice was blessed to be part of four generations. Other survivors include her brother, Daniel (Pauline) Nowicki of South Bend; and sister-in-law, Betty (Jerry) Vascil of Granger; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alice was a loving and generous person who enjoyed many cruises and Februarys in Florida with Ed. Alice also enjoyed trying new recipes, playing poker with her Tuesday morning poker group, reading, shopping, and running errands, with her daughter and spending time with her family. Alice was a graduate of Washington High School and was a Red Cross volunteer for many years.A special thank you to Dr. Jose Bufill, MD, Helene, Tammi and Cheryl; who took special care of her at Michiana Hematology and Oncology; and to the nurses on the 2nd floor Infusion Center at St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka. Visitation is 4-8pm Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be praye,d at 5:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial is 11am, Wednesday, May 11, 2016, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
