SOUTH BEND - Jozef Mroz, 85, passed away at 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, in his residence. Jozef was born on December 6, 1923, in Poland, to Andrew and Franciszka Mroz. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers. On August 11, 1946, in Germany, Jozef married Anna (Stefanuk). She survives along with their children, Irene Kafka of South Bend and Jim (Tina) Mroz of North Liberty; grandchildren, Carol (Dan) DeMeyer of Niles, MI, Julie (Todd) Jones of Mainesville, OH, and Samantha, Adam and Alex Mroz, all of North Liberty, IN; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Trace, Carter and Quin Jones, Tyler and Tanner Lindorf and Tori DeMeyer; a sister, Stephanie Siewec of Chicago, IL; and a brother, Anthony Mroz of Poland. Jozef worked as a factory worker at White Farm Equipment before retiring in 1987. As a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, he served as a Eucharistic minister and a lector. He was a member of the Friends of the Polish Army World War Veterans and the leader of the Joe Mroz Polka Band. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ansari Center for Autism, 2505 E. Jefferson Blvd.,South Bend, IN 46615.
