SOUTH BEND - Rita M. Luczkowski, 82, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 6:05 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2014, in Hospice House. Rita was born on May 23, 1931 in South Bend to Aloysius and Mary (Fujawa) Switalski and was a lifelong resident. She retired in 1994 from the South Bend Tribune, where she was employed as an Accounts Receivable Manager. On June 23, 1951 in St. Casimir Church, she married Richard A. Luczkowski, who survives. Also surviving are her two children, Mary Louise Luczkowski of Oregon and Kenneth R. (Kim) Luczkowski of Goshen, Indiana; three grandchildren, Tara Majewski, Paul Luczkowski, and Jacob Luczkowski; brothers and sisters, Vicki (Ralph) Johnson, Tom (Judy) Fujawa, Chuck (Sue) Fujawa, and Bob (Margo) Fujawa; one sister-in-law, Harriett Luczkowski of Plymouth, Indiana; one brother-in-law, Joseph Bykowski of South Bend, Indiana; nieces and nephews, Dennis (Jerilyn) Bykowski, Paul (Deb) Bykowski, Kay Scoville, John (Nancy) Bykowski, Kathy (Jim) Laskowski, Tom (Carolyn) Luczkowski, Jeanette (Chris) Sayer, Margie (Randy) Rogers, Mike (Elizabeth) Luczkowski, and John (Jill) Luczkowski; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Bykowski and Christine Battles; and one brother-in-law, Norbert Luczkowski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2014 in Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive where a parish rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Rita was a member of Holy Family Parish. She was a 1950 graduate of South Bend Catholic High School. She enjoyed reading and gardening. Rita was a wonderful, wife, mother, and grandmother.
