MISHAWAKA - Louis George Mickels, 77, passed away early New Years Day at Tanglewood Trace with loving family by his side. A Mishawaka native son, he was born there on July 20, 1935 to the late John Mickels, Sr. and Elizabeth (Kahlil) Mickels. Lou graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1953 and later was involved in helping to plan many of his high school class reunions. He served honorably in the U.S Army in the late 1950s. He was an avid golfer and a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church and BPO of Elks Lodge #235. He is survived by three children, six grandchildren and a brother; they are: a son, Joseph Jude (Beth) Mickels of Granger and their daughter Madison; a daughter, Melinda M. (Robbie) Evans of Granger and their four children: Emily, twins Daniel & Michael and Molly; a son, Craig (Adrienne) Mickels of Raleigh, NC and their son Conley; and a brother, Andrew (Jeanne) Mickels of South Bend. Along with his parents, Lou was predeceased by four brothers: Richard (Doris) Mickles of South Bend, John (Carolyn) Mickels of Mishawaka, James Mickels and Jerry (Sharon Henderson) Mickels of South Bend. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-7 pm at McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, (enter off Cherry Rd.), where there will be a parish Wake Service at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 7th at 11 am at St. Monica Catholic Church, with Msgr. Bruce Piechocki, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
