SOUTH BEND - Kathryn Veronica Horwarth, 93, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012, at her sister's home in South Bend, Indiana. She was born to John and Kathryn (Yandl) Horwarth and was a lifelong area resident of South Bend. Kathryn attended St. Mary's Elementary School and graduated from St Joseph's Academy. She retired from Bendix after working there for over 50 years and, while there, presided as president of the Bendix Girls Choir for 2 years; and she was a member of the Bendix Salaried Retirees Club. Though Kathryn never married, being the 2nd oldest of nine children, her greatest love was spending time with her family, which consisted of many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and recently a great-grand-nephew. Kathryn enjoyed playing word search puzzles, and had a great love for helping anyone in need. She was a parishioner of St. Jude's Catholic Church and a member of SRC. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Josephine Horwarth, Gertrude Hemmelgarn, Helen Lukasiewicz, Margaret Griesinger and Agnes Berlakovich; and a brother, John Horwarth. She is survived by her sister, Anna (Stephen Jr.) Elek of South Bend, and brother, Leo "Bud" Horwarth of Granger, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, July 18th, at Saint Jude Catholic Parish, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, IN. Burial will follow the funeral at Highland Cemetery. A visitation was held at the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Kathryn Horwarth to Saint Jude Catholic Church.
