Robert L. Grenert was born April 9, 1939 to Andrew Franklin and Edna Stella (Harkins) Grenert in South Bend, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and all of his brothers and sisters: George, Francis Taylor, Roy, James, Kenneth, Frank, Margaret, Cecil and Andrew. Bob was raised in South Bend Indiana, attending Stuckey School and graduating in 1957 from Washington Clay High School. He then graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1962. Devoting his life to teaching, Bob taught for 33 years at River Forest High School, Hobart Indiana and also coached the academic team. He later was an adjunct professor at IUPUI Portage, Indiana for five years. He was a staunch Democrat and delegate in the election of Jimmy Carter. Bob lived in Miller Beach Indiana from 1957 to 2014, before returning to South Bend. He loved living near the lake and Indiana Dunes. When he returned to South Bend, he lived at Maple Lane Apartments, before moving to Wellbrooke. While he was at Wellbrooke, he made many friends and was well taken care of. Bob is survived by two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Mae and Rose Marie Grenert. Uncle Bob was loved and also survived by a gazillion nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, Indiana. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation, Supporting Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, Indiana 46545-5234.
