Penelope Sugonis, 72, residing in South Bend, passed away at 12:15 am Saturday, October 17, 2015 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born February 3, 1943 in South Bend to the late Kenneth G. and Margaret Vance (Collier) Sugonis and remained a lifelong area resident. She was very spiritual. Penelope is survived by her daughter, Char-anna Koblick of South Bend; her granddaughter, Penelope Taylor Clayton; her great granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Mattice; and her sister, Pamela Losure of South Carolina; as well as her cats, Dreamer and Gypsy.
Penelope will be privately laid to rest at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN. Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. No services will be held according to Pene’s wishes, but at a later date a Celebration of Life gathering will be held, possibly in July. If interested in attending, please let the family know, and you will be contacted at a later date. Pene was passionate about so many things: her country, all life (the earth, animals and people). She had several health concerns including macular eye degeneration, diabetes, heart and cancer. Memorial contributions may be donated to any of the above, in lieu of flowers. Family, including all her cousins she grew up with, were very important to her and she spent as much time as possible with them. She also enjoyed friends, playing cards and games, going to concerts and plays, audio-books, traveling, gambling and going to Las Vegas. If she wasn’t listening to music or audio-books, NPR could be heard.
