George L. Spanos, of South Bend, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the age of 91. He was born on August 25, 1931 in Akron, OH to Louis G. Spanos and Lucille S. (Bogyus) Williams. On May 11, 1956 in Mississippi he was united in marriage to Thelma E. Kelly who preceded him in death in 2017. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force. George retired from Uniroyal with 40 years of service where he worked as a pipefitter. He attended First Brethren Church in South Bend. George is survived by his grandson, Christopher (Mindy) Welker of South Bend, great grandchildren, Benjamin, Haley, Charlotte, along with his son in law, Steve Brandt of Rolling Prairie. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister, Willma Morrow, and brother, Eugene Williams. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Palmer Funeral Home - Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Graveside services will immediately follow at Highland Cemetery in South Bend.
