INDEX

[N33807] Donald Nicholas Dumich
April 26, 1950 ~ December 2, 2022 (age 72)

Donald Nicholas Dumich, age 72, of South Bend, IN, passed away on December 2, 2022 at home and surrounded by love. Don was first and foremost a devoted husband to his late wife Jean, father to his children Lisa (John) Deck, Kate (Steve) Sollmann, and Mark (Carrie) Dumich, and grandfather to his 11 beloved grandchildren: Mae, Will and Luke Sollmann, Tucker, Sawyer and Weston Deck, Henry, Matthias, Ellen, Timothy, and Andrew Dumich. He was also a cherished brother, cousin and uncle, and a trusted friend to many. Don spent the majority of his career at S&C Electric Company, from where he retired after over 40 years of service. His life was built around service - to his family, to his church, and to various volunteer organizations that benefited from his kindness and commitment over the years. In retirement, he was especially active in volunteering for the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, Ronald McDonald House and the Potawatomi Zoo. His self-appointed ministry was prayer. He prayed for everyone he knew -and countless he didn’t know- who were suffering, or anticipating medical news, or expecting a baby (mothers and babies especially had his heart!) Whenever someone in his orbit or that of his kids was going through something serious, one call to Don and they would be in his prayers relentlessly, often for years. If you knew Don, you knew that his favorite activity was either being with his grandchildren or bragging about them. They were the center of his universe, around which everything else revolved. He was a constant in their lives and the lives of his children, making it his personal mission to be both mother and father, grandmother and grandfather, after the early and tragic loss of his beloved wife. The only consolation in his passing is that he is finally reunited with his true love in heaven. Well done, good and faithful servant. Visitation for Don will be on Monday, December 5, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home - Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, December 6, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger with one hour of visitation prior to the Mass. A graveside committal will take place on Wednesday, December 7 at 11:00 a.m. CST at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 W Buckley Rd, Libertyville, IL 60048. The livestream of the service may be viewed at: stpius.net
