Raymond J. Rospopo
December 28, 1935 - January 21, 2015
Raymond J. Rospopo, 79, of South Bend, passed away at Hospice House at 8:24 AM Wednesday after a brief illness. He left this world knowing that he was loved by many. Ray was born on December 28, 1935 to John and Florence (Eberlein) Rospopo. They preceded him in death along with two brothers, Richard and James. He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1953 and proudly served this country in the National Guard from 1959-1964. On October 1, 1960, he married the former Ann Rafalski in St. Casimir Church. She survives, along with two daughters, Cynthia (Terry) Vukovits and Patricia (John) Tomaszewski. He was blessed with grandchildren including, Raymond and Kathleen Molchan, Linda Tomaszewski, Kelly Whitman and Megan Tomaszewski, Peter Vukovits, and Kayla Wright. He enjoyed his great grandchildren, Matthew, Isaiah, Izaak, Camden, Cory, Cohen, Adalia and I'lah. One sister, Evelyn (Gary) Weldy also survives, along with his sisters-in-law, Dixie Rospopo and Marcia (Don) Wiseman. Ray was blessed with many friends that were as dear to him as family. Ray was an employee of Ball Band for 13 years and for Indiana and Michigan Electric for 33 years. An avid Notre Dame Fan, he was an usher at Notre Dame Stadium for 33 years. He also enjoyed working with and coaching young people in basketball, softball and baseball at St. Casimir's, St. Mary's of the Assumption and South Side Little League. After retirement, he and Ann enjoyed traveling with friends and family as often as they could. He was always up for a good time. A member of St. Casimir Parish, Ray also belonged to their Married Mens' Club. With those men, he worked for the betterment of the parish.
Friends may meet with the family on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Kaniewski's Funeral Home at 3545 Bendix Dr. in South Bend where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM along with the Married Men's members. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 1:00 PM at St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Gardens, where members of the American Legion Post #284 will conduct Military Services. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice, 111Sunnybrook Ct, South Bend, IN 46637. Ray's candid sense of humor and love for those he was close to will always be missed. Go Irish!
