Mary L. Van Vlasselaer passed away at Elkhart Hospice House Wednesday morning. She was born to Joseph and Dorothy (Gleason) Hanyzewski in Union Mills IN. at the age of five her family moved to South Bend where she would spend the rest of her life. On April 11, 1942 she married A.J. Van Vlasselaer and together they would raise two children. Mary loved gardening and collecting things such as birds and Santa Clause’s. She enjoyed nothing better than being a stay at home mom. Mary’s children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She was a member of Pilot Club International of South Bend for many years. Surviving are son Rick (Maribeth Roncz) Van Vlasselaer and grandchildren Scott Machowiak, Nick Machowiak and Todd(Stephanie)Machowiak, great-grandchildren Shawn and Brandon Machowiak, Dillon Gondocs and brother Gene(Doris) Hanyzewski also nieces and nephews Brenda Hanyzewski Sandra(Red) Davis., Gary(Victoria)Hanyzewski, Cheryl(Kevin)Maroney and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews of Arizona and of South Bend IN. and Chris Gondocs. Mary was preceded in death by daughter Barbara Machowiak, granddaughter Sara Gondocs, Brothers Kenneth, Donald, John and Bill Hanyzewski and sisters Dorothy Skwiat and Ruth Hanyzewski. A gathering of friends and family will be Tuesday November 17, 2015 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Highway Osceola IN. 46561 with a Memorial Service starting at 6:00pm with Guy Gizzi officiating. A private interment will be held at a later time at Chapel Hill Memorial G ardens. The family requests Memorial contributions are made to Center for Hospice Care 501 Comfort Place Mishawaka IN. 46545
