GRANGER - Bernice T. Wozny, 94, of Granger (formerly of South Bend), passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born on September 1, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Stanislaw and Marta (Ruszkowski) Sikorski and was a lifelong area resident. On February 9, 1946, in South Bend, as Bernice Sikorski, she married Eugene J. Wozny in St. Casimir Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on December 15, 2008. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rose (Harry) Hecklinski and Alice (Julius) Wentland; two brothers, Al (Clara) Sikorski and Sylvester (Hildegard) Sikorski; and a grandson, Justin Wozny. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Dr. Max) Helman; and her son, Robert (Kathleen Niles) Wozny, both of Granger; three grandchildren, Anthony (Heather) Traxler of Omaha, NE, Meredith (Jeffrey) Guyton of Granger, and Blair (Holly) Wozny of Mishawaka; five great-grandchildren, Shawn Wagner, Olivia Traxler, Elle Guyton, Tate Guyton, and Kane Wozny; four step-grandchildren, Dr. Laura Helman, Deborah (Jeff) Ammerman, Brian (Richelle) Helman, and Scott Helman; four step-great-grandchildren, Matthew Ammerman, Brooklyn Henderson, Alyssa, and Seth Helman; her former daughter-in-law, Diana (Craig Fredlake) Wozny; a sister-in-law, Shirley (Jack) Mesaros; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and her friends at the Village at Arborwood. She was a lifelong member of the Polish Falcons of America. She was very proud of her Polish heritage and enjoyed golf, playing cards and bingo, and spending time with her family. She was an amazing cook and baker, and everyone always loved her cakes and pies. She was a strong, caring, compassionate, and loving grandmother and great-grandmother of deep faith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Granger, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Care Center, 360 N. Notre Dame Ave., South Bend, IN 46617. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Nursing Staff in the PCU and Comfort Care units at St. Joseph Medical Center, Alycia with Harbor Light Hospice, and Drs.
