GRANGER - Harold Raymond McMurtrie, 86, of Granger, IN, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in his home. Raymond was born on September 12, 1928, in Terre Haute, IN, to the late Ernest and Flossie (Hart) McMurtrie. On March 31, 1950, in Rosedale, IN, he was married to Ruth (Black) who survives. Also, surviving are their children; David (Alicia) McMurtrie, of Granger, IN, Kathy (Lonnie) Micinski, of Mishawaka, IN, grandchildren; Angela (Brandon) Hayes, Emily (Noah) Herron, Jake Micinski, great grandchildren; Carson Hayes, Olivia Herron, 1 brother; Jack McMurtrie, of South Bend, IN, 2 sisters; JoAnn McMurtrie, of Mishawaka, IN, and Dorothy Piech, Granger, IN. Raymond liked to fish and hunt, and especially loved to garden. Raymond proudly served with the United States Navy, from 1945-1949. He took part in "Operation Crossroads" which was the testing of the atomic bomb at Bikini Atoll. Also, Raymond was sent to Pearl Harbor after the attack in which he recalled being able to see the USS Arizona just below the water surface. Raymond was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Gladys Huxford-Bennet, Genevieve Browning, Marguerite Leslie, Eva Mae Davis, and 1 brother, Bud McMurtrie. A gathering will take place on Sunday January 25, 2015, from 1-2 in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3190 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN. A memorial service will begin at 2 pm with military honors to follow. Per Raymond's wishes cremation will take place. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to; Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, 114 N. Ironwood Dr. South Bend, IN, 46615, or Southern Care Hospice, 1626 Day Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
