[N10226] Isabelle H. Hazinski
April 9, 1918 - Oct. 22, 2009
SOUTH BEND -Isabelle H. Hazinski, 91, of South Bend, IN, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009, in Regency Place, South Bend, IN. Isabelle was born April 9, 1918, in Crumstown, Indiana, to Stanley and Marie (Grzesk) Robakowski. On May 15, 1941, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, South Bend, Isabelle married Clement F. Hazinski, who preceded her in death on August 23, 1975. Clement retired from the South Bend Police Department, and at the time of his death was the city's traffic engineer. Surviving are her two daughters, Catherine (Thomas) Lower of Granger, IN, and Suzanne Kintz of Louisville, KY; her four grandchildren, David (Jeanette) Kintz of Paoli, IN, Deanna (Daniel) Johnson of West Bend, WI, Christine (Terry) Lockhart of Floyds Knobs, IN, and Joseph (Jennifer) Lower of Lake Forest, IL. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Joseph and Lucas Kintz, Melissa and Anna Johnson, Allyson and Taylor Lockhart, Ryan Weddle, Kaitlyn and Alexa Lower. Her brother, Norbert Robakowski, and sister, Virginia (Clement) Fiwek, preceded her in death. Isabelle graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1936. She worked in The Western State Bank for several years, and was a cashier in the St. Joseph County Treasurer's Office for 20 years. Isabelle was a member of Corpus Christi Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of Corpus Christi Church, the Forever Learning Institute Choral Group, and the Michiana Polka Mass Singers. She was proudly a member of the Octette Club for 70 years. Isabelle was affectionately known as "The Cookie Lady" of Belkay Drive. She came to know all the children as they visited her every Saturday morning to receive their two cookies. Family events were a special time for her to enjoy all the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, and she made many trips to visit them all. Isabelle had a passion for reading and kept records of all the books she had read. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and made the best chocolate chip cookies. Even as she was confined to her apartment, she never stopped watching Notre Dame football games which she then discussed with her son-in-law. Isabelle was called "Grandma P-nut" by her family, and she will be dearly missed. We all know she is now in a better place with her beloved Clem and "Bapa." The family of Isabelle especially wants to thank all the special caregivers at Tanglewood Trace of Mishawaka, IN, and Regency Place, South Bend, IN. God saw you getting tired And a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you And whispered, "Come to me." The golden gates stood open, God knew you needed rest, His garden must be beautiful, For He only takes the best. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2801 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN 46628.
