Bernard E. Banicki, 56, of 1334 King, died at 3 p.m. Monday in his residence after an extended illness.
He was born on March 13, 1921, in South Bend, and had lived here all his life. On Sept. 18, 1943, he married the former Christine Kwiecinski, who survives with a son, Martin of South Bend; four daughters, Miss Karen Banicki, at home; Mrs. Maryalice Miller of South Bend, Mrs. Therese Ray of Charleston, S.C., and Mrs. Roberta Horvath of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; a brother, Richard of Granger, and a sister, Mrs. Esther Dobrzkowski of South Bend. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Hedwigs Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Sienkiewicz, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Banicki was a member of Lottie A. Zell Garrison 146, Army-Navy Union; a past president of the Holy Name Society of St. Hedwig's Churchman umpire for District 11 Little League and a veteran of World War II.
