MRS. CATHERINE SLOMA VICTIM OF FLAMES

Mrs. Catherine Sloma, 915 Davis-av., N.W., was burned to death Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. Sloma was observed running to a second-story porch with her clothing ablaze.

She lived there with her daughter and a grandson.

Mrs. Sloma had been in failing health.

SLOMA FUNERAL TO BE SATURDAY

OFFICERS FIND TRACES OF FIRE IN APARTMENT

Death of Mrs. Katherine Sloma, 63, a widow, of 915 Davis-av., N.W., as the result of burns, was described Friday by Inspector Albert F. Scheiern, chief of detectives, as accidental. Uniformed policemen reported soon after the tragedy Thursday afternoon they had found no evidence that any fire had occurred inside her upstairs apartment, but Scheiern said closer investigation indicated otherwise. rs. Sloma apparently had been wearing a loose kimona over a flannel nightdress and the garments caught fire as the widow obviously tried to start a fire in a small laundry stove. She ran to the upper porch, where her body was found by two milkmen who were across the street when Mrs. Sloma screamed.
Detectives Glenn Lane and Harold Mervenne investigated. Mrs. Sloma was alone. The detectives reported that among the burned papers found on the front porch were fragments of burned clothing. They reasoned Mrs. Sloma carried the papers to the porch in her excitement.

SON IN ARMY.

A former neighbor, Mrs. Donald Johnson, 1236 Davis-av., N.W., was walking past the house, she told Police Lt. Walter Thompson, when she heard screams, looked up to the second-floor porch and saw smoke and the woman's up-raised hand.
She shouted to the milkmen, Lester Rapp, 1404 Fourth-st., N.W., and Michael Utaniskas, 938½ Ottawa-av., N.W., who ran upstairs too late to be of any aid. Surviving are a son, Cpl. Frank J. in the army in France; five daughters, Mrs. John Olejniczak, Mrs. Richard Johnson, Mrs. Edmund Uzarski, Mrs. Charles Botwinski and Mrs. Anna Wojciuch; two sisters, Mrs. John Adamczak of Muskegon and Mrs. Mary Hollands of Martin, and thirteen grandchildren. The body is at the Derezinski mortuary, where members of the Rosary sodality will recite the rosary 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Adalbert's church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
