Marie B. Stafford, 86, of Brick Road in South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in her residence. She was born on Nov. 23, 1914, to the late Joseph and Theresa (Lockmondy) Fuzy in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. She was also preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers. Mrs. Stafford was a homemaker and a registered nurse. She had served as a private duty nurse and also worked for the Children's Dispensary. On Dec. 7, 1940, as Marie B. Fuzy, she married Henry R. Stafford in South Bend. He survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Sue (Ron) Heick of South Bend, formerly of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Ray (Becky) Stafford of South Bend; four grandchildren, Tiffany Heick of Orlando, Fla., Jennifer Heick of St. Louis, Amy Stafford of South Bend and Casey Stafford of South Bend; and by a sister, Betty Beamer of Ann Arbor, Mich. Mrs. Stafford was a member of St. James Episcopal Cathedral in South Bend, was a lifetime member of the Indiana Parent Teachers Association, a former volunteer for the German Township 4-H Club, and was a former instructor for the American Red Cross. She graduated from Central High School in 1934, and graduated from the Epworth School of Nursing in 1937. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 11, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, with Fr. Frederick E. Mann officiating. Cremation will follow, with burial at Highland Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. today, Sept. 11, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437.
