Daisy J. Barrier, residing in New Carlisle, formerly of South Bend, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Hamilton Grove Retirement Community, New Carlisle. She was born March 2, 1921 in Claypool, IN, a daughter of Charles & Ethel (Morehouse) Dawson, Sr., and has lived in South Bend nearly her entire life. On July 15, 1938 in South Bend, as Daisy Dawson, she was united in marriage to Roy C. Barrier. They enjoyed nearly fifty-three years of marriage until his passing on June 26, 1991. She was also preceded by two sons, David Barrier in 1991, and Edward Barrier in 2005, along with sisters Violet Quinn & Rachel Singleton, and two brothers, Robert & Charles Dawson, and a great-grandson, Grant Jones. Mrs. Barrier retired in 1979 from the University of Notre Dame where she worked for more than twenty years in concessions. She was a member of World War II Mothers, The Quilting Circle, PTA, and the Church's Widow Club. She is survived by three daughters, Becky (Bob) Johnson of Mishawaka, Phyllis (Don) Owens of Wheatfield, IN, and Alice (Warren) Rietveld of Mishawaka, and a son, Richard (Nancy) Barrier of Granger. Also surviving are twenty eight grandchildren, fifty-seven great-grandchildren, and thirteen great-great grandchildren. Six sisters also survive Daisy, Irene Ferris, Betty Ewing, and Patricia Davidson all of South Bend, Beverly Fredricks of Indianapolis, Faith Secor of Elkhart, and Marylou Tillman of Evansville. Daisy's family would like to express their love, gratitude and deepest appreciation to their mother's extended family at Hamilton Grove, whom has given the upmost excellent care and love to Daisy as if she was their own mother. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Fred Cencelewski of Bible Way Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park.
