[N4530] Richard M. Gnoth
Mar. 2, 1951 - Aug. 8, 2012
GRANGER - Richard "Dick" M. Gnoth, 61, passed away Wednesday, August 8. Dick was born on March 2, 1951 in Mishawaka to Charles Richard and Doris Pauline (Stockberger) Gnoth. They both preceded him in death. Surviving are his son, Adam Gnoth of Chicago, IL; sisters, Mary Ellen (Dave) Diroll and Rose-Marie (Mike) Johns both of South Bend; brothers, David (Lori) Gnoth of Granger and Robert A. Gnoth of South Bend, and multiple nephews and nieces. He was a 1970 graduate of Marian High School. He was very proud of being an Eagle Scout. Dick was an avid fisherman and loved to talk fishing to his nephews and explain the proper techniques along with his tricks to catching the big one. Richard retired from the Mishawaka Police Department after 21 years of service. During this time he served as F.O.P. President for one year. Dick was a devoted father and made multiple, lasting friendships, too numerous to count, from the several establishments he was a part of. Dick owned the Loading Zone, East Race and River Park Liquors. Dick owned Studes with his father and good friend, Tim Decker, and enjoyed several years running this together. After selling Studes, Dick opened the Sportspage, with his latest establishment being The Sports Fan. Dick also loved Notre Dame Football. His tailgates will be missed by the hundreds of friends he made. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, August 13 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Matthew Catholic Cathedral, South Bend, with Monsignor Michael Heintz and Monsignor William Schooler officiating. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, 520 Crescent Ave., South Bend, IN 46617.
