SOUTH BEND - Richard S. Siderits, 73, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2009, in the Ironwood Health & Rehab Center. Richard was born on November 6, 1935, in South Bend, to Robert and Theresa (Lukavich) Siderits, who preceded him in death along with three uncles, Paul (Gladys) Lukavich, John (Sally) Lukavich and Steven (Mary) Lukavich; and two cousins, Christina Lukavich and Nancy (Lukavich) Koelber. Surviving are five cousins, Joyce Lukavich Sarvari and Frances (David) Lukavich Andrysziak, both of South Bend, Barbara Lukavich Sobierajski of North Liberty, Jimmy Lukavich of Plainfield, IL, and Jerry Lukavich of Wheatfield, IN. Mr. Siderits graduated in 1953 from Washington High School where he played varsity football. He was a corporal in the United States Marine Corps, a member of the Marine Corps League, Military Order of the Devil Dogs, D.F.V. German Club, Crumstown Conservation Club, the South Bend Conservation Club, Fraternal Order of Police #36 and Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Richard was an avid Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed Saturday afternoon football games with his friends at the German Club. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17th, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Prayer services will follow at 7 p.m. Military services and interment will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
