SOUTH BEND - Benedict J. Dalke, 90, passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012, at the Golden Living Center-Fountainview in Mishawaka. Mr. Dalke was born on January 5, 1922, in South Bend, to the late Cashmer and Sarah (Syipinski) Dalke. He has remained a lifelong resident of South Bend. On August 22, 1942, in South Bend, Mr. Dalke married Virginia Horvath, who preceded him in death in July 1975. On May 26, 1976, in South Bend, he married Phyllis Luckowski, who preceded in death on Sept. 22, 2007. Also preceding in death were two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia (John) Frederick and Joyce (Charlie) Tate; two sisters, Virginia Ross and Alice Kujowski; and two brothers, Edward and Joseph Dalke. Mr. Dalke is survived by his daughter, Mary Jo (Jerry W.) Grice of South Bend; two grandchildren, Jerry B. "Jay" (Diane) Grice and Amanda (Don) Hansford; two step-daughters, Nancy (Bill) O'Blenis and Judy (Bob) Luczkowksi, both of South Bend; stepson, Jim (Nancy) Luczkowski of South Bend; and two sisters, Dorothy Horvath of Ocala, FL, and Florence Sheets of Rancho Mirage, CA. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Dalke retired in 1984 from Sibley Machine and Foundry after 44 1/2 years of service. He proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Army. Mr. Dalke was a faithful member of St. Jude Catholic Church, South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend. Military graveside services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Contributions in memory of Benedict J. Dalke may be donated to Asera Care Hospice, 700 E. Beardsley Avenue, Suite 2B, Elkhart, IN 46517. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
