Elizabeth T. "Betty" Pocza, 92, of S. Chapin Street passed away at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2002 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Pocza was born on June 9, 1909 in South Bend to John and Elizabeth Varga. Betty was employed for 22 years at the former Wilson Brothers. On September 14, 1948 in South Bend as Elizabeth Varga she married Paul Pocza who died on October 5, 1995. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by a nephew John Varga, and a step-sister Otelia Cunningham. Surviving are a nephew Frank Varga of Osceola; a sister-in-law Rose Varga of Mishawaka; 2 great-nephews, 4 great-nieces; 6 great-great-nephews, 6 great-great-nieces and John Varga's widow Kay Varga Smith of St. Joseph, Michigan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2002 in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Garden. Family and friends may call from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Friday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Hungary Church.
