Aileen T. Bartkowiak

SOUTH BEND - Aileen T. Bartkowiak, 81, passed away on Thursday, May 7th, at 2:35 p.m. in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Aileen was born on July 18, 1927, in South Bend, to the late Bert and Jennie (Dobrucki) Andrzejewski. On June 12, 1948, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, she married Norman C. Bartkowiak, who preceded her in death on May 31, 1998. She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth J. (Barbara) Bartkowiak of South Bend and Michael N. Bartkowiak of Michigan; three granddaughters, Lisa M. Bartkowiak, Stacy L. Bartkowiak and Amy E. Bartkowiak, all of South Bend; and by her sister, Lorraine (Daniel) Ewald of South Bend. Aileen worked for Indiana Bell and retired in 1985 after 29 years of service. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Daughters of Isabella, Golden Clusters and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Aileen will be remembered most for her tremendous love and devotion to her family. Throughout the years she provided unequivocal love and dedication to her parents, husband, children and grandchildren. She was also an outstanding cook with particular specialization in Polish cuisine. She made certain to pass on this wonderful skill to her grandchildren. Aileen will be missed for her unending acts of kindness. She also remained steadfast in her devout Catholic values. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 11th, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12th, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Garden, St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Visitation will also be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619.
