SOUTH BEND - Roger A. Sabaj, 70, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 10:42 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, in Memorial Hospital. Roger was born on January 14, 1943 in South Bend to Peter G. and Gertrude (Barczykowski) Sabaj, and was a lifelong resident. He retired in 2007 after 21 years of employment with Transpo. He was also the owner of the South 31 Sunoco in South Bend. Survivors include his wife, Norva; one stepson, Terry (Sandy) Cauffman of LaPorte, Indiana; one grandson, Zachary Cauffman; five brothers, David (Geri) Sabaj of South Bend, Indiana, William Sabaj of Lansing, Michigan, Patrick Sabaj of South Bend, Indiana, Randall (Cheryl) Sabaj of South Bend, Indiana, and Raemon (Nancy) Sabaj of Osceola, Indiana; and by several nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Gertrude Sabaj; one brother, Robert Sabaj; and one nephew, Randall Sabaj. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 9, 2013 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and for one hour prior to services on Thursday in the funeral home. Roger was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the United States Army from 1964-1966. He was a member of the American Legion Post #284 and V.F.W. Post #360. He was an avid Chicago White Sox and Bears fan. He enjoyed garage sales and auctions.
