Patricia Joan Boersema peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 30 at the age of 90. Patricia was born on September 24, 1930 in Plainwell, MI to Archie and Evelyn (Jackson) Sunnerville. On June 17, 1950, she married Ralph J. Boersema. Together, they raised three children. Patricia will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother. She celebrated 50 years of marriage with Ralph before his death on September 2, 2000. Family was everything to Patricia. She loved returning to Michigan for large family reunions. She did extensive research on her ancestors and enjoyed sharing discoveries with her children and grandchildren. Patricia also liked to garden, bake and travel. She was very independent, living on her own, until the final days of her life. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, her father Archie, her mother Evelyn, and her sister Jacqueline Thomas. She is survived by her brothers James (Donna) Sunnerville of Otsego, MI and Ernest (Jerrilyn) Sunnerville of Plainwell, MI. Patricia will be greatly missed by her son Terry (Rebecca) Boersema of South Bend, IN and their daughters Heather (Mike) Carroll of South Bend, IN and Heidi (Keith) Dillon of Buford, GA, her daughter Shirley (James) Steinhofer of South Bend, IN and their daughters Melissa (Chris) Griffin of Marietta, GA and Kelley (David) Walczak of Elmhurst, IL, and her son James (Julia) Boersema of South Bend, IN and their sons Jacob and Joshua Boersema of South Bend, IN. Patricia deeply loved her great-grandchildren Meghan, Kadyn, Kinsley, Dominic and step-great-grandchildren Chloe and Cade. The family would like to thank Jan Berrier and the Maple Grove United Methodist Church members for their loving care of Patricia. Services for Patricia will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN 46614. Friends may visit with the family starting at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Patricia’s honor to the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association 3816 Paysphere Circle Chicago, IL 60674 or to American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
