South Bend - Patricia Irene Koch, 80, was called home to her place in heaven on 3:07pm Thursday, February 7, 2013 in West Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Pat was born January 11, 1933 in South Bend to the late Virgil Monroe DeMike and Ethel Irene (Palmer) DeMike. Pat is also preceded in death by her children, Sandra Jean Bolka, Paul Koch, Jr, and Jerry Koch; Margie Lower, Delore DeMike, Phylis Aldridge, Herb DeMike, Ellen Stibick, Roena DeGroff, and Warren DeMike. On March 10, 1951 Pat married Paul Koch at North Judson Lutheran Church, he survives along with children, Ben Mikel (Pamela) Koch of North Liberty, IN; grandchildren, Paul Koch, III of South Bend, Janice Koch of Chicago, Joshua Koch of South Bend, Jonathan Koch of South Bend, Gregory Koch of South Bend, Patrick Bolka of North Liberty, Christopher Bolka of North Liberty, Stephen Bolka of North Liberty, Michael Wroblewski of South Bend, Benjamin Koch of North Liberty; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Lillian Wroblewski of Elkhart, IN; daughter-in-law, Cristina (Russel) Taylor of South Bend, Bonnie Koch of South Bend; and son-in-law, Paul Bolka of North Liberty. Pat loved life, family, and friends, singing and dancing at any opportunity throughout life. She spent more than 10 years square dancing with her husband in the area. Pat was a lover of country music and rock and roll, but was especially a huge Elvis fan. A housewife for many years, raising the kids and later watching her grandchildren grow. Pat decided to learn to drive and joined the workforce later in life. Her driving career was short lived, but she worked at Fitness USA and eventually retired from Notre Dame after 11 years. Pat had many honorary grandchildren and was known by many in the South Dining Hall. Pat enjoyed many other hobbies throughout her life, sewing, crocheting, photography, playing cards, shopping, and collecting angels of all types, and she was a Sunday school teacher. By far one of her greatest thrills was singing "Happy Birthday" to friends, families and strangers including her own verse at the end "May Jesus Bless you, may he guide you and keep you, may Jesus Bless you". Pat was an amazing soul and touched many lives throughout hers. She will be cherished and honored by all those that knew her. Visitation for Pat will be 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm Sunday, February 10, 2013in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:00am Monday, February 11, 2013 in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
