MISHAWAKA - William M. Vander Hagen, 81, passed away at home on Friday, May 29. William was born on August 14, 1927, in South Bend, to Frank and Mary (De Meyer) Vander Hagen. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Elsie Breit, Evelyn Cates, and brothers, Edward Vander Hagen, Larry Vander Hagen.
On September 6, 1952, in Plymouth, William married the former Joan Izdepski. Surviving are his loving wife, Joan; children, Tami (Dick) Stillson of Mishawaka, Deborah Bogaert of South Bend, Eric Vander Hagen of Las Vegas, NV, Linda Dix of Mishawaka, Marcia Vander Hagen of Oakley, CA, Barbara (David) Marley of South Bend and Stephen (Stacey) Vander Hagen of Granger; 12 grandchildren, Dana (Jerry) Livengood of South Bend, Courtney Bogaert of South Bend, Ryan Dix of Chicago, IL, Bridget Dix of Mishawaka, Lindsey (Brian) Roth of Dayton, OH, Emily Stillson (fiancé LA High) of Mishawaka, Brandon Combs of Oakley, CA, Rachel Marley of South Bend, Samantha Marley South Bend, Shane and Claire Vander Hagen of Granger, and Rik (Erica) Stillson of Anderson, IN; and sisters, Eleanor Vander Hagen and Elaine Pyclik both of South Bend, and Frank Vander Hagen of Rockledge, Fl.
William was a transportation supervisor for NIPSCO for 34 years. He retired in 1987. He moved to Mishawaka in 1989 after living in Monticello for 10 years; prior to that he lived in South Bend. William was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church.
Family and friends may visit today, May 31st, from 2 to 6 p.m., with a 5:30 wake prayer in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 1st, at 10 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
