MISHAWAKA - Monica L. Pawlak, 88, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Friday in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born on January 9, 1925, in South Bend, to the late Michael and Lucy (Niemer) Hes and was a lifelong area resident. On May 28, 1949, in South Bend, she married Eugene C. Pawlak, who preceded her in death on January 21, 1993. Monica is survived by her daughter, Christine (Henry) Thompson of Mishawaka; two grandchildren, Rachel (Ken) Kempf and Cynthia (Joe) Burgess; two great-grandchildren, Caleb N. and Rebekah Burgess; and a great-grandbaby on the way in August. She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick C. Pawlak; two sisters and five brothers. Monica attended St. Stanislaus Grade School and Central High School. She enjoyed reading the newspaper and her favorite shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She also used to love crochet and sewing. There will be no visitation; cremation will take place.
