James S. Banacka, 88, formerly of Terrace Lane, South Bend, Ind., died at 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, in the Cardinal Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. Mr. Banacka was employed with Studebaker Corporation for 25u years until 1965, then with Main Engineering which became Stouffer Graphic Arts, retiring on Jan. 1, 1992. James was born on Oct. 28, 1912, in Dowagiac, Mich., to Stephen and Flossie (Gridley) Banacka, and was a lifelong area resident. On April 11, 1942, in South Bend, he married Elizabeth Ann Orban, who preceded him in death on March 5, 1990. He was also preceded in death by seven sisters and brothers. Mr. Banacka is survived by a sister, Betty Brinkman, and a brother, Charles Banacka, both of Mishawaka, Ind.Funeral services for Mr. Banacka will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, in Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood, South Bend, IN 46635. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Homes, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Contributions in memory of James S. Banacka may be made to Little Flower Catholic Church where he was a member.
