Clifford H. Childress of Niles Michigan died suddenly Thursday 12/22/66 at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend Indiana where he had been hospitalized for a few days for tests and observations. Services will be conducted at 3pm Saturday at Forest Hayes Funeral Home, South Bend Indiana burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park South Bend. Mr Childress was born March 29, 1925 near Tuscola Illinois. He was the son of Clayton and Irene Lewis Childress. He graduated from Oakwood High School in Oakwood Illinois where he was outstanding in athletics, lettering in football, basketball and track. A veteran of World War II, as an enlisted Marine of the First Marine Division, he served in Co. A 5th Marine for three years in the South Pacific, and was awared the Bronze Star , the Purple Heart and the Presidential Citation for Extended Bravery. He is survived by his widow, Jean of Niles Michigan; two daughters, Linda and Patricia at home, his mother of Fithian Illinois; two brothers, Lewis of Urbana Illinois and Frank of Fithian Illinois ; and a grandmother Mrs Alta Childress of Rosehill Illinois He was employed at the Mohawk Trucking Company of South Bend Indiana
