Abraham Shapiro, 90, of North Liberty, IN, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 25, 1931 to the late Louis and Jenny (Swartz) Shapiro in Brooklyn, NY, and has lived in the Michiana area since 2010. Along with his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Shapiro; and his three sisters. Abraham was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, where he served his Country from 1953-1955. He retired in 1985, after working as a Welder for 40 years. On October 25, 1959, he married Judith A. Vodovoz in Brooklyn, NY. Judith passed away on May 17, 2019. Abraham is survived by his daughter, Natalie (Scott Hinman) Cruz of North Liberty, IN; and three grandchildren, Joseph Shapiro, Mercede Cruz; and Antonio Cruz. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2022 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle, where friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service.
