MISHAWAKA - Joan Grittani, 80, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Hospice House in South Bend. Joan was born on October 17, 1937 in South Bend to Harry and Harriet (Kwasnieski) Swartz. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Jack Grittani Jr. On September 28, 1957 in South Bend she married Jack V. Grittani; he preceded her in death on December 25, 1999. Surviving are a daughter, Frances (Paul) Saros of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Jack “JD” (Ebony) Grittani, Jake (Jen) Mumm, Jacqueline (Evan) Speicher, Paul “Bubba” Saros Jr.; great grandchildren, Hunter, Ellie, Kash, Aiden, Noah, Gabriella, A'mauri, Kaliyah; siblings, Betty (Bill) Gray, Jerry (Edna) Swartz, Lorraine (Devon) Paczkowski, Vikkie (Dave) Russo, Paul (Debbie) Swartz and Sharon (Tom) Williams. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Joan was a crossing guard and school aide for Swanson Grade School and later enjoyed “working” with her sisters at Chick-fil-A and Cinnabons. Her first priority was always her family, she was always willing to lend a hand. Joan loved children and spent many hours watching over all of them. She loved spending time with her family and her “shows” on the Hallmark Channel. Always optimistic with an unconditional love for all. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, November 16 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jack and their son, Jack Jr. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Foundation Supporting Center for Hospice Care: South Bend-Elkhart-Plymouth, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
