[N14122] Josette Christine Greuling
Nov. 5, 1955 - Dec. 24, 2015
SOUTH BEND - Josette Christine Greuling (nee Pawlowski), born on November 5, 1955, was called to rest in Guam, U.S.A. on December 24, 2015, surrounded and supported by her loving family. She was the youngest of five children born to Joseph T. Pawlowski, Esq. and Mrs. Olga M. Pawlowski (nee Wozniak). After graduating from St. Joseph's High School in South Bend, Josette attended and received her BA in Business in 1975 at Marymount College in Boca Raton, Florida. Josette was a vibrant person, wife, mother, sister, neighbor and dear friend to many. She left an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to experience her unique sense of “joie de vivre”. One would be hard-pressed to match her quick wit and humor; yet, it is more for her kind generosity that she will be remembered. She lived her life with grace and humility even through life's adversities. She was an adventurer and loved to see the world. Her wanderlust took her to far flung destinations to visit and she also lived in places as diverse as Florida, California, New York, Texas, and finally, in the U.S. Territory of Guam, a Pacific island, where she and her beloved husband, a pilot, Captain Ernie Greuling, lived for the last twenty years. She was an excellent chef, loved planting in her unique orchid gardens, enjoyed watching classic black and white movies, read extensively, and was a devoted church member of Blessed Diego de San Vitores Catholic Church in Tumon, Guam, where she served as a lector. Wherever Josette lived she was instrumental in helping the less fortunate. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and was a member of the GUAM WOMEN'S CLUB for many years where she served as Chairperson for Public Relations; Promotion; Fund Raising; and Breast Cancer Support Group since 1995. Her intellectual enthusiasm for historical, social and topical issues often thrust her into the limelight to be an invited guest on Guam television and radio programs. She and her voice were recognized anywhere she went. Many individuals expressed their thoughts of Josette by saying, “She was a joy to behold, intelligent, sensitive, and a ray of sunshine!” Josette was predeceased by her parents who lived in South Bend and her sister, Pola Mayer of Fair Oaks, California. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Christine Lanese and husband Mark, Schodack Landing, NY; her brother, Michel Pawlowski, D. Sc., CEM, St. Augustine Beach, FL; her sisters, Nadya Pearlman and husband Alan, Scotch Plains, NJ; and Mila Cangelosi and husband Paul Brestyanszky, Huntington Beach, CA. Josette also leaves behind a nephew, U.S. Navy Lt. Commander Alexei Pawlowski and wife Ericka and their four children, Chula Vista, CA, and a niece, Undine Pawlowski George, Esq. and husband Edward, St. Augustine Beach, FL. She is also survived by first cousins Andrea “Andi” Ruttan and Carl M. Kay of South Bend, and JoAnne Wozniak Byrn of Niles, Michigan. Josette's wishes were to have her cremains scattered around the island of Guam and throughout the Pacific waters so she could continue her journey on earth. Her wishes were granted on January 1st, 2016! Anyone who would like to honor Josette's memory is encouraged to send contributions/masses in Josette's name to one of the following: Blessed Diego de San Vitores Catholic Church, 884 Pale San Vitores Rd., Tumon, Guam 96913, or St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 331 S. Scott St., South Bend, Indiana 46601. Published in South Bend Tribune from Feb. 13 to Feb. 14, 2016
