SOUTH BEND - Edward “Poncho” Jachimiak Sr., 82, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at the Hospice House. Edward “Poncho” was born October 28, 1933, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Bernice (Wojtasik) Jachimiak. Edward was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ted and Walter, and sister, Eleanor. On February 16, 1957, in South Bend, Edward married his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia (Robinson) Jachimiak, who survives, along with their children, Diana Jachimiak, Deborah Rist, Darlene Takacs, and Edward Jachimiak, Jr; grandchildren, Casey, Cory (Liz), Christopher, Chad, Cody, Evan and Seth; great-grandchildren, Colin, Dominic and Emma; brothers, Eugene (Marie) and Raymond; and sister-in-law, Maxine Jachimiak.Edward honorably served his country in the United States Army in the 71st Helicopter Battalion. Throughout his career, Edward was owner of his own service station and proprietor with North American Van Lines and Oil Express. He retired in 1998 from B&R Oil. Edward was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was an avid mechanic, camper, traveler, and loved country music. Edward enjoyed his vegetable gardening, NASCAR, playing euchre, and cheering on the Colts (and later the Broncos). Edward lived a full and eventful life. He will truly be missed by many.A gathering with the family will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday, March 28, 2016, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., with a Funeral Service to begin at 1:00 pm. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
