South Bend - Julius A. Drabecki passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the age of 90. Julius was born February 23, 1923 to the late Jan John and Luczia Lucille Drabecki. Julius is also preceded in death by his sisters Bernice Drabecki, Christine Drabecki, Cecilia Drajer and Martha Kaizer; and brothers Stanley, Florian Chief, Victor and Anthony Drabecki. On July 31, 1948 at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois, Julius married Mary C. Rybski. She survives along with their children John J. (Judy Jankowski) Drabecki of Granger, Robert M. (Susan) Drabecki of Ft. Wayne and Linda M. (James C. Hildabridle) Basker of South Bend; grandchildren Nicole Drabecki, Jennifer Gerber, Jeanine Kocsis, Sarah Rippe, Jaime Drabecki-Findley, Lauren Kimes, Natalie Naragon, Kyle D. Basker and nine great-grandchildren. Julius honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was part of Company B 147th Engineer Construction Battalion and earned the EAME Theater Ribbon, 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Arrowhead, Distinguished Unit Badge, WW II Victory Medal and the French Croix De Guerre and was a strong force in the Normandy Beach Invasion. Julius was a member of VFW Post 357, St. Joseph Young Men's Society and the Golden Cluster. He served as an altar boy and Eucharistic Minister at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Julius was an employee of the Studebaker Corporation for 22 years. He later retired from the First Bank Building as Director of Maintenance and Engineering after 20 years. First and foremost, Julius loved and enjoyed spending time with his wife Mary of 65 years, as well as with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid lover of Polka music, loved to dance and enjoyed attending Polish festivals and activities throughout the country. Visitation for Julius will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 in St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. SOUTH BEND Celebrating their 60th anniversary are Mary C. and Julius A. Drabecki of Harrison Road. Julius Drabecki and Mary Rybski married July 31, 1948, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Chicago. They have three children, Linda M. Basker and John J., both of South Bend, and Robert M. of Fort Wayne. They also have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Drabecki retired from the First Bank Building, and Mrs. Drabecki retired from Uniroyal Technology Corp., Mishawaka. They have lived in South Bend for 60 years
