SOUTH BEND - Joseph C. Farkas, 82, of South Wellington Street, died Sunday in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Mary (Kaczmarczyk); two daughters, Michelle Lekarczyk of Valparaiso and Marijo M. Farkas of South Bend; three sons, Joseph M. of Huntington, Ind., Patrick M. of Rogersville, Mo., and David M.; and a sister, Elizabeth Martin of Rochester. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Zahoran Funeral Home.
Joseph C. Farkas (Nov. 28, 1918 - June 3, 2001).
Joseph C. Farkas, 82, of S. Wellington Street, passed away at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, June 3, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.Mr. Farkas retired in 1990 from Adapto where he was employed for seven years. He also had been employed by Bendix and Cloud Brothers. Mr. Farkas was a World War II Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 50. Joseph was born Nov. 28, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., to Joseph M. and Frances Farkas. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Jerome Lekarczyk and Joseph Lekarczyk; a sister, Helen Horvath; and by a brother, Michael Farkas. On Oct. 23, 1948, in South Bend, he married Mary Kaczmarczyk, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Michelle (David) Lekarczyk of Valparaiso, Ind., and Marijo Farkas of South Bend; three sons, Joseph M. (Diane) Farkas of Huntington, Ind., Patrick (Vanessa) Farkas of Rogersville, Mo., and David M. Farkas; three grandchildren, Jennifer Uttrich of Chicago, Ill., Nicholas Farkas of Huntington and Erica Lekarczyk of Valparaiso; a sister, Elizabeth Martin of Rochester, Ind.; and by numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Our Lady of Hungary Church Repair Fund.
