SOUTH BEND - Hermina “Minnie” Takacs, 93, passed away at 11:10am Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in Hospice House. Hermina was born on January 16, 1923 in South Bend to Frank and Mary (Singer) Freitag. She was employed as a hairdresser with Reggie & Co. and Zahoran Funeral Home. Minnie was a member of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Altar & Rosary Society and Choir, and the former D.F.V. German Club Ladies Auxiliary. On June 22, 1946 she married Julius P. Takacs. He preceded her in death along with a daughter Charlotte Karafa, son-in-law Paul Deguch, four sisters Mitzi Reiner, Ann Nagy, Josephine Chiszar and Rose Nagy and four brothers Frank Freitag, Carl Freitag, Joseph Freitag and Herman Freitag. Surviving are two daughters Betty Zeiger and Annette Deguch both of South Bend, a son James (Kathy) Takacs of Bear Lake, MI, son-in-law Andrew Karafa of South Bend, sister-in-law Florence “Flossie” Freitag of South Bend, 9 grandchildren Andrew (Darla) Karafa, Frank (Andrea) Karafa, Amy Zeiger, Aaron (Diana) Zeiger, David Deguch, Theo Deguch, Mackenzie Deguch, Jaclyn (Brandon) Duthler, and Jonathan (Monica) Takacs, and 16 great-grandchildren Alex, AJ, Lila, Iris, Walker, Anna, Abby, Arielle, Zachary, Logan, Trevor, Keira, Gwendolyn, Sydney, Tristan, and Taylor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Saturday, August 27, 2016 in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8 Friday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 4:00pm In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice Care.
