SOUTH BEND - Bernadine V. “Bernie” Nowicki, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. Bernadine was born on May 28, 1927 to the late Leo and Veronica (Tafelski) Golubski in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Jankowski.Bernadine retired after many years of employment, as a Secretary for Cole Associates, Inc. in South Bend, IN. On May 22, 1976, as Bernadine V. Golubski, she married Sebastian Nowicki at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. They were married for 32 years, before he passed away on August 30, 2008. Bernie is survived by two stepdaughters, Kathleen (Altan) Stalker of Dallas, TX and Patricia Hershberger of Elkhart, IN; four stepsons, Thomas (Linda) Nowicki of South Bend, IN, Dennis Nowicki of Mishawaka, IN, James (Cheryl) Nowicki of South Bend, IN and John (Wendi) Nowicki of Cassopolis, MI; six step- grandchildren, Katheryn Stalker, Altan J. Stalker, Jamie (Jeffrey) Hemmerlein, Adam (Libby) Nowicki, Carl Hershberger and Michael Nowicki; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Robert Golubski of South Bend, IN.Bernadine was a member of Corpus Christi Parish. She was a former member of Bowlers Country Club; University Club at Notre Dame; and Forever Learning Institute. Bernie was a meticulous dresser and homemaker who was very proud of her home. She was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Sebastian, whom she cared for during his years of declining health. There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating. Cremation will follow. A Celebration of Bernie's life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to: Corpus Christi Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN.
